Rikki’s Refuge Needs A Hand

Rikki’s Refuge Animal Sanctuary is an an ALL-SPECIES, NO-KILL SANCTUARY about an hour and a half from here in Orange County, VA. They were hit very hard in the Derecho storms last Friday and still have no power or phone. One of their staff has to go offsite to even leave a note on Facebook.

VinnyBecause they are in a rural area and many lines are still down it may still be a while until they do have them. They have many unexpected expenses from the storm, and that will continue until they have power again. Their most important unexpected expense is water for all their animals in their 367 acre sanctuary. They’re having to use 20 gallons of gas a day to keep the animals in water with the generator one of their great guys who does electrical work was able to rig to use the well pump. Generators aren’t cheap to run, but  theirs is literally a life saver for the animals.

In good news for them, though they lost a number of trees, none of them fell on any of the animals or their buildings. All the animals made it! So they’ll be able to get up and running pretty much as normal once they’ve gotten past the power problem and storm damage to fences and such.

I don’t want to take away from any other animal charities you might want to help, but if you have a dime to spare, they could sure use it. Every penny helps and it adds up.You can drop some change in their tip jar here. If you can’t donate money, please donate a little time by sharing on Facebook, Twitter, email, or however you can so those that do have a little to spare can help. Thanks.
